Innovations in Local Wildfire responses

Music is Medicine is a culturally grounded music mentorship program for Indigenous youth ages 15–22 with an interest in music. The program supports youth through music education, mentorship, creative expression, and community connection.

What This Program Includes

Music is Medicine brings together Indigenous youth, musicians, mentors, facilitators, and community advisors through music lessons, jam sessions, mentorship, peer coaching, showcases, and community-guided planning.

Program activities include:

  • biweekly music lessons and jam sessions

  • mentorship and peer coaching with Indigenous musicians

  • opportunities for creative expression and performance

  • community events and showcases

  • feedback activities to understand youth experiences, engagement, and program impact

We welcome interest from:

  • Indigenous youth ages 15–22 with an interest in music

  • parents, guardians, and caregivers

  • Indigenous musicians, mentors, and facilitators

  • community advisors, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and youth wellness advocates

  • community partners and organizations connected to Indigenous youth wellness, music, arts, or mentorship

Participation

Depending on your role, participation may include music lessons, jam sessions, mentorship activities, advisory conversations, interviews, focus groups, surveys, feedback conversations, or community events.
